Frequently asked questions

How can a student request to see the school counselor?

Students may be referred to the counselor by a teacher, parent, administrator, or another school professional. Students may also request to speak with the counselor when support is needed.

What does a school counselor help with?

School counselors support students in three main areas: academic development, career development, and social/emotional development.

Can parents contact the school counselor?

Yes. Parents and guardians are encouraged to communicate with the school counselor when they have concerns about their child's academic, social, emotional, or future planning needs.

Is school counseling the same as therapy?

School counseling is different from long-term clinical therapy. School counselors provide short-term, school-based support and connect students and families with community resources when additional services are needed.

What is confidentiality in school counseling?

School counselors respect student privacy and follow professional and ethical standards. There are limits to confidentiality when there is a concern about a student's safety or the safety of others.

How can I get additional resources for my child?

Families can contact the school counselor for assistance identifying school-based and community resources that may support their child's needs.

How does counseling support academic development?

We work collaboratively on executive function skills, time management, test anxiety, schedule balance, and communication with teachers, ensuring every student has the tools needed to reach their potential.

Can parents request resources or academic conferences?

Yes. I regularly facilitate collaborative conferences between teachers, parents, and students to review academic progress, 504 accommodations, or behavioral support strategies.
